Why cant the output from JScreenFix be encoded?
Video compression relies on predictable changes and large areas with limited complexity and noise. Put simply, there is too much data there to code into a video stream. A compromise had to be made to create a suitable video for download.
The videos use 16x16 pixel blocks to reduce compression artifacts and area averaging. By shifting the 16x16 blocks by 8 pixels periodically to ensure that pixels falling on edges get a good workout when the video is on on a direct pixel mapping to the output screen.
The main reason the videos are not as effective as the application, however, is the frame rate. Only 25 or 30 frames per second rather than 60 fps.
